Operate a safer facility with professionally installed machine guarding

Facilities face a lot of dangers. Whether it is the machine itself, the machine’s environment, or workers’ own mistakes and errors, there are all sorts of ways for accidents to happen. Luckily, machine guarding offers a variety of solutions that can help improve facility safety and reduce dangerous machine-related accidents and injuries. Midsouth can assess each machine in your facility to determine an appropriate level of protection based on potential injury risks. Machine guards provide the most common type of protection from access by hands and fingers when operating near rotating parts such as belts & gears.

Midsouth machine guards include:

– Guards for machine guarding

– Safety squaring equipment

– Emergency stop systems

– Presence sensing devices

In addition, machine guards can reduce machine downtime and increase machine performance by protecting belts from damage. Midsouth is a certified installer of machine guard systems as well as a supplier of machine guarding accessories. We also fabricate machine guards for older equipment and are very experienced with guarding mechanical presses. The right guard for each machine

There are four main types of machine guards: fixed machine guarding, adjustable machine guarding, self-adjusting machine guarding, and interlocking machine guarding. These machine guards can be fitted with safety devices including presence sensing devices or emergency stop controls to protect workers from hazardous machine conditions.

– Fixed machine guards are designed to cover the operating part of the machine while offering maximum protection against access by hands & fingers to rotating parts such as belts & gears… usually requiring an interlock mechanism.

– Adjustable machine guards are able to adjust their circumference allowing for easy access during maintenance or repair work but will not move out of place when in operation. Most adjustable machine guards use a threaded screw system that allows to tighten its circumference around rotating parts.

– Self-adjusting machine guards move into position to cover a machine’s moving parts as it is turned on… usually requiring an interlock mechanism.

– Interlocking machine guards are designed to be attached/welded onto machine tools and provide protection to the working machine area. In addition, workers cannot accidentally activate the machine tool without first disengaging the machine guard by use of a manual or automated control device to remove or separate guarding devices from hazard locations. This type of machine guarding requires an interlock mechanism for proper machine operation.
