Savannah Port Sets New Shipments Record

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) is now the fourth-largest container port in the United States. That’s thanks to the Port of Savannah setting a new shipment record in January 2022. The port moved an astonishing 480,000 container units of goods that month.

To support this growth, the Georgia Port Authority has planned to invest $3 billion into expanding the port’s capacity. This expansion will allow the port to accommodate larger cargo vessels and keep up with demand. The investment will also create thousands of jobs in the area.

The Port of Savannah is crucial to the state’s economy. It supports more than 154,000 jobs and generates over $27 billion in annual economic impact. With this recent growth, it’s clear that the port is only going to become more important in the years to come.
