Spartanburg County Welcomes $130M Investment from Milo's Tea Company

Milo’s Tea Company, a 76-year-old national beverage company based in Alabama, has announced that it will invest over $130 million to build a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The facility is expected to bring over 100 new jobs to the area and will be used to produce Milo’s all-natural tea and other beverages. Milo’s expects to break ground by mid-March 2023 and start production in fall 2024.

After a multi-year site selection process, the company chose a 48-acre campus in Moore, South Carolina, at the corner of U.S. Highway 290 and U.S. Highway 221. The 110,000 square-foot facility will be the fourth production plant for the company. The move to South Carolina is part of Milo’s goal to expand its production of all-natural teas and best tasting beverages, and the company plans to add additional lines of production over the coming years.

“We immediately felt at home in the Spartanburg area as we received a warm welcome from state and local community partners,” said CEO Tricia Wallwork. “South Carolina and Spartanburg County in particular proved to be the right ecosystem to help us advance our People First culture by offering an excellent standard of living for our associates and robust workforce development resources to drive economic prosperity not only for our people but also for the region.”

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster praised the addition of Milo’s Tea Company to the state’s beverage industry, saying, “Their investment and the creation of new jobs will greatly enhance the Spartanburg County community and the state.”

Milo’s was diligent in ensuring the water quality of the region could match its consistent taste and quality, sending multiple tanker trucks of water to its Bessemer plant to validate flavor consistency.

“Our purpose is and always has been to spark joy in everyday moments with our associates, customers, fans, and the communities we serve,” said Wallwork. “We can’t wait to make more of these Milo’s Moments in Upstate South Carolina as we join this vibrant community.”

The investment of over $130 million by Milo’s Tea Company in a new manufacturing and distribution facility in South Carolina is exciting news for the area. The addition of over 100 new jobs will have a significant positive impact on the local economy, and the expansion of Milo’s production of all-natural teas and beverages is a testament to the company’s commitment to quality and sustainability.

Expert Piping Contractor Services in Spartanburg

Undertaking a construction project of this magnitude demands an army of skilled contractors, each a master of their craft. The piping requirements alone are a feat to be reckoned with, calling for several teams of highly experienced piping contractors. These experts will work tirelessly to design, install, and test intricate systems that surpass state and local requirements, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the facility’s plumbing and water supply.

Water supply piping: Tea production requires large quantities of water for brewing, cleaning, and other processes. A factory would need to have a reliable and sufficient water supply, which would require the installation and maintenance of appropriate piping and plumbing systems.

Steam piping: Tea production may involve the use of steam for heating or sterilization purposes. The facility would need to have steam piping installed to deliver the necessary steam to the appropriate equipment and production areas.

Piping for tea concentrate: Some tea production facilities use tea concentrates to speed up the brewing process or ensure consistency in flavor. Piping would be needed to transport the tea concentrate from storage to the brewing equipment.

Piping for tea blending: Tea blending involves combining different tea varieties or flavors to create unique blends. Piping would be needed to transport the different teas to the blending equipment.

Product distribution piping: After the tea is brewed and bottled, it needs to be distributed to stores and customers. The facility would need to have a piping system to transport the bottled tea from the production area to the warehouse or distribution center.

Wastewater piping: Tea production and bottling also generate wastewater, which needs to be treated and disposed of properly. The facility would need to have a piping system for wastewater that complies with local regulations.
